Great Local PBS Programming Now Available Online
Today we are pleased to announced that we have been selected by PBS to help the broadcaster create a unique online experience where site visitors will have access to locally- and nationally-produced content.
As Tier 1 Research wrote, “Most of the well-known PBS shows and documentaries from filmmakers like Ken Burns are produced by larger stations like WETA Washington DC and WNET New York and distributed to member stations. But individual stations produce a lot of localized content, much of which is trapped in tape or digital archives.” With this relationship, Limelight Networks is able to help bring all PBS content, no matter where it is produced, to all PBS website visitors, no matter what site they want to access it from.
“This relationship with Limelight Networks will help PBS and our member stations offer extensive video programming online,” said Jason Seiken, senior vice president of PBS Interactive.
PBS is comprised of 356 member stations, reaching more than 115 million people on-air and online. This relationship between Limelight Networks and PBS will help ensure local stations, even those with limited resources, have the opportunity to more widely distribute their original content online, bringing more value to their users than ever before. It will also help provide viewers with access to national content directly from the website of their local PBS station. Stations already using the new platform include KPSD South Dakota, WNET New York, and WQED Pittsburgh.
